Self-guided tour
The museum at your own pace
From Antiquity to the 20th Century, discover the evolution of the city of Bordeaux and of its commercial port open to the world. Follow the footsteps of the merchant families who settled in the Chartrons district and played a major part in the prosperity of the Bordeaux vineyard, making it an essential world reference.
Through objects and documents from that period, the permanent collection of the Musée du Vin et du Négoce teaches you about the evolution of different techniques and tools related to wine: barrel ageing, the evolution of bottles, labels and the fashions that followed.
At the end of your visit, one of the wine tourism mediators will accompany you with an explanation of the Bordeaux vineyard and its appellation system during a commented tasting of two wines.

Did you know ?
François Mauriac was the owner of the Domaine de Malagar.
He had inherited this wine estate from his ancestors. He called himself a “country owner”.
He liked to stay in Malagar in the summer and remained there until the end of the harvest. From the terrace of Malagar he admired “the most beautiful landscape in the world”. His office was located near the winery where they produced “a nice white wine that was not too sweet, perfect for foie gras”.
François Mauriac, 1885 – 1970

Avril, 2024.Unmissable Bordeaux place The Wine and Trade Museum is a real gem for wine lovers and history buffs in Bordeaux. This museum is full of valuable information on the history of Bordeaux and its wines, offering a captivating immersion in the region's wine heritage. The wealth of exhibitions and documents presented allows us to better understand the evolution of the wine trade over the centuries. What really sets this experience apart is the argumentative tasting offered at the end of the tour. It’s much more than just a tasting; it is a real sensory lesson which allows you to deepen your knowledge of the different grape varieties, terroirs and winemaking techniques. Each wine tasted is accompanied by detailed explanations which enrich the experience and shed new light on what we are tasting. In short, the Musée du Vin et du Négoce is a must-see for anyone wanting to explore the fascinating history of Bordeaux and its wines, while enjoying a memorable and informative tasting experience.Penanguer C5. Février, 2024.Wine Museum, Bordeaux It is small but with history. The staff is very attentive and willing to communicate. The girl who did the tasting for us made an effort to be able to explain it in Spanish. We had a small incident at the tasting that they resolved with kindness. Recommended even with minors.Carter S10. Février, 2024.Great experience in Bordeaux This was such a great class.
